Gastric Ballon
Procedure Information
The gastric balloon is a non-surgical procedure in which a silicone balloon is placed inside the stomach and filled with saline to occupy space. The procedure is performed under anesthetic sedation, so the patient does not feel pain or discomfort during the placement. This helps patients feel full with smaller portions and develop healthier eating habits. The balloon can remain in place for 6 months to 1 year. Hospitalization is not required, but a short observation period of a few hours may be recommended. Rest for one week is suggested before gradually returning to normal activities.
Post-procedure diet: Begin with clear, sugar-free liquids for the first few days, then progress to soft foods as recommended by your doctor. Gradually return to regular foods while following dietary guidelines.
Patients typically lose 10–20% of total body weight (approximately 10–25 kg / 22–55 lbs). This procedure is ideal for patients seeking a less invasive first step in weight loss. Recommended for patients with a BMI between 27 and 35.
