GASTRIC SLEEVE
Procedure Information
The gastric sleeve is a bariatric surgery in which the stomach is reduced by 70–80%, creating a narrow sleeve that helps patients eat less and feel full with smaller portions. The procedure is typically performed laparoscopically under general anesthesia, taking about 1–2 hours. Hospitalization is usually 24–48 hours, after which patients can travel home. Rest for one week is recommended before gradually returning to normal activities.
Post-surgery, your diet starts with sugar-free, non-carbonated liquids for the first week, progresses to pureed foods for three weeks, and then to regular foods around four weeks after surgery. Frequent medical checkups are recommended to monitor your health, including lab tests and exams.
Patients can expect to lose 60–70% of excess weight (approximately 20–40 kg / 44–88 lbs) within the first year, depending on lifestyle changes. In addition to weight loss, sleeve gastrectomy may improve or resolve obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, sleep apnea, stroke, and infertility, and can enhance daily activity and overall quality of life. Recommended for patients with a BMI over 30.
Recovery:
✳️ 24-48 hours of hospitalization. Patient can travel back home upon discharge.
✳️ 7 days of easy rest at home (patient can walk, bathe, and perform simple activities at home).
✳️ Exercise one month post-surgery
