Mini gastric bypass
Procedure Information
The mini gastric bypass is a simpler and faster procedure in which the reduced stomach is connected directly to a more distal part of the intestine with a single connection. It helps patients eat less and reduces calorie absorption. The surgery is performed laparoscopically under general anesthesia, typically taking 1–2 hours. Hospitalization is usually 24–48 hours, after which patients can travel home. Rest for one week is recommended before gradually returning to normal activities.
Post-surgery diet: Start with sugar-free liquids for the first week, move to pureed foods for 2–3 weeks, and then gradually transition to soft and regular foods by the fourth week. Regular medical follow-ups are recommended.
Patients can expect to lose 70–80% of excess weight (approximately 30–50 kg / 66–110 lbs) during the first year. This procedure is highly effective for controlling type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol, and can improve overall quality of life.
Recommended for patients with a BMI over 40, or over 35 with associated health conditions.
